Chapman and Clarkson continue to build their squad for the upcoming 24/25 season with two additional new signings.

The new Hoops management team have continued to add to their squad looking ahead to the new season. Adding a mixture of experience and talent to an already strong squad. With Birtley kicking off their pre-season friendlies tomorrow against Morpeth Town, the next few weeks are the perfect time for new signings to be embedded into the team.

“Clarky (Andrew Clarkson) has to take the credit for bringing in the two lads. When we looked at the squad, especially after Glen’s departure, we needed to add a couple new faces, but we were mindful of only targeting the right characters. Clarky set about finding the right players straight away. With these new arrivals, Jack Elliott and our existing front line we feel confident and are really happy with our attacking selection”

Nick Marley

First up we have Striker Nick Marley. Marley will be familiar to Birtley fans as we have faced him on numerous occasions in Division 2, notably his time at Esh Winning, and more recently at Crook Town. He is a constant goal threat, and is also able to use his strength to hold up the ball and bring others around him into the game.

Chapman went on to say “Nick has a massive amount of Northern league experience. We’ve come up against him over the last couple of years and he’s always a handful. He’s honest, works tirelessly for the team and brings players into the game fantastically.”

Clarky also added “I love Nick. I’ve played with him and against him for many years and we’ve developed a good relationship. He will cause some serious issues for opposition defenders as he has done all his career. A great goal scorer and creator of goals. He is someone I know our supporters will love watching.”

The Hoops also welcome Jay McLean, another young and vibrant forward. He has most recently plied his trade at Sunderland West end and Billingham Town. He will bring more pace and dynamism to our front line, alongside our existing squad.

Clarky went on to say ” I’m really excited to bring Jay in. I have known Jay since he broke on the scene in the 2nd division with Esh Winning and I wanted to take a look at him in pre-season. He has shown in training he can more than hold his own alongside a strong 1st division squad and he’ll be a good asset for us in the coming season.”

Chapman also gave his thoughts “Jay’s a little bit different to Nick, he stretches teams more and then on his next movement will drop into pockets to receive the ball to his feet ready to move the team forward quickly. He strikes a ball wonderfully too. Similar to Nick his work rate without the ball is something we’ve both been impressed by.”

“Both lads will play their part this season chipping in with goals and bringing others into play. They will compliment our existing squad well, and importantly they have settled into the group well.
