New Birtley boss Reece Chapman has bolstered his squad with two quality signings ahead of the 24/25 campaign.

Chapman has been quick to make two new acquisitions ahead of the new season. With the season just over five weeks away and the inevitable Northern League merry-go-round in full swing, Birtley have added to the squad that finished in 4th position last season. Chapman recognising it would be important for the team to continue to progress.

“We’ve had a great start to pre-season on the pitch, the lads have come back really sharp. Off the pitch we’ve lost a couple but almost everyone else has re-signed and we’ve also made a few fantastic signings”.

“The management team and I sat down a few weeks ago and we drew together a list of players who we think can support us both on the pitch and off it. Naturally one or two of those haven’t come off but we’ve also had some huge successes”.

The first signing is Jack Elliott who joins the club from Whickham. Previously, Elliott made 141 appearances for Dunston and scored 18 goals. A tricky attacking player, Jack will look to provide goals and assists to a Birtley line that registered 98 goals last season, the third highest in the division.

“Jack is a fantastic player who has a wealth of experience, much of it at a level above NL1. He’s direct, loves going 1v1 with opponents and we feel will really benefit us in the top third of the pitch. He will offer goals and assists and I know some of the lads are really looking forward to connecting with him”.

The Hoops also welcome Sam Dinsley back to The Arrowmark. Dinsley who has been captain of Bedlington Terriers for the previous two seasons will now offer Chapman a range of options across defence and midfield.

“Dinza is a player that knows the club having been here before. He’s had a fantastic couple of seasons up at Bedlington in a very competitive side. We feel he’s a player ready made for NL1 and will play a huge part for us. He’s aggressive both with and without the ball.”

Birtley fans can look forward to more to come as Chapman comments “This won’t be the last of the signings either. We’ve got 5 or 6 in training with us. They all offer something a little different and we’ve got ongoing conversations with another couple to join us”.

The new signings don’t stop on the pitch either as Reece confirmed first team coach Chris Reay. “Chris is joining Clarky, Mordey and I. He’s someone I trust and for me that’s an extremely important quality. Chris is an UEFA B coach and has an array of experiences from within local football including at Jarrow in the Northern League and South Shields where he works in the Future Academy”.

Chris commented on joining The Hoops “I’m delighted to be joining the club. When Reece approached me, I was excited about joining a fantastic community club, which has a strong band of volunteers. The club have had a brilliant couple of seasons, and I hope that we can continue to support the club moving forward. The players, committee and Reece, Clarky and Mordey have welcomed me immensely already.
