Birtley will look to bounce back from Tuesday’s FA Cup disappointment, as they head to Lancashire this Saturday to face Barnoldswick Town of the North West Counties Premier in the FA Vase.
The Hoops put up a spirited display against Shildon but were unable to prevent the Railwaymen from scoring four quick goals during a rampant fifteen-minute spell in the second half.
One bright spot for Birtley was the return of Alex Francis after a year on the sidelines, with the experienced defender coming off the bench to score a late goal.
Much like Birtley, Barnoldswick have had a mixed start to their league campaign, but they’ll have been buoyed by last week’s spectacular comeback against Euxton Villa, where they overturned a 2-0 deficit to secure victory, with goals from Tyler Beck and a Kuda Chingwaro brace.
Both sides will see the game as a great opportunity to kick on and put themselves in the hat for the Second Round Qualifying draw.
