Recap
Birtley Town make their longest journey of the season so far as they travel across the A66 to Penrith.
The Hoops go into the game on the back of a hard fought 1-1 draw with Newton Aycliffe. Charlie Aitken’s penalty secured a vital point for Birtley. A much improved 2nd half display could have seen Birtley secure all three points with the Green and Whites piling on the pressure in the final stages. The Hoops know they must find most consistency with 4 points taken from their last two games but with only one win in their last six. In team news, Nick Marley returns from suspension. Scott Heslop remains the only long-term absentee in the Birtley squad as The Hoops return to near enough full strength.
Penrith go into the game having lost each of their last three games, conceding 11 and not registering a goal. The Bonny Blues run of three straight defeats follows a run of three straight victories against Thornaby, Redcar Town and Northallerton. Lewis Boyd will be suspended for the hosts following his red card at Newcastle Benfield. The Hoops will need to be aware of threat posed by Jordan Palmer who has scored 7 goals this season.
Birtley can have no place for complacency going into the game with the recent defeat against Newcastle Benfield a warning that The Hoops will need to be at their best to bring back all three points. The next month feels like a crucial period in the league with 10 points separating Kendal Town in 21st and Horden in 7th.
