The club are delighted to welcome 5 new signings to the 1st team squad for the new season. Managers Paul Bryson and Paul Foster have acted quickly to bring in new faces to boost the squad. Local lads Callum Smith and Callum Turnbull join from North Shields and Ryton & Crawcrook respectively. Bryson has brought Alex Francis to the club from Consett AFC after their promotion 21/22 campaign. Harry Pilkington and Aiden Rutledge complete what has been a fantastic day for the club!

Harry Pilkington

Harry is a versatile player who made three substitute appearances for the club at the back end of the 2020/21 season during our run to the semi finals of the Durham Challenge Cup.

Most recently at Penrith Town, Harry has previous Northern League experience with Guisborough Town, Consett and Billingham Town but the majority of his footballing career has been spent abroad.

Callum Turnbull

Callum grew up playing for Birtley youth teams. Since his early 20’s he has been at the heart of Ryton & Crawcrook’s central defence, having went on to make over 300 appearances and scoring a considerable amount of goals.

Callum finished his Ryton career by winning the league cup, ironically lifting the trophy at Birtley Town FC.  Still a Birtley lad, he returns to his hometown club for the 22/23 season hopefully lifting more trophies in the future.

Alex Francis

Alex started his career as a youngster at Newcastle United’s Academy and has played for some well established clubs in the past including Gateshead, Spennymoor Town and Dunston UTS with further spells coming at Northern League sides West Auckland, Bishop Auckland and Whickham.

He was part of the successful promotion side with Consett AFC last season and has worked closely with Paul Bryson before. As something of a dead-ball specialist, Alex is sure to make an impact in central midfield.

Callum Smith

Callum joins us after a successful promotion seasonn with North Shields. Cullum’s’ Dad, David is an ex-Birtley Town manager who led the club to its most successful period in the early 00’s.

Callum came through the Newcastle United academy, spending time at Hull City and Dunston UTS before joining the Robins. A thrilling winger with an eye for a spectacular strike, he’s sure to play a big part in the coming season.

Aidan Rutledge

Aidan is a striker who made a solitary appearance for Birtley Town in a league cup defeat to Whitley Bay during the 2019/20 season.

Since then, the 21-year old has shown his prowess at Gateshead Leam Rangers in the Wearside League where he scored an impressive 49 goals in 60 appearances in his two seasons at the club which also included a short stint at Whitley Bay.

We’ve been keeping an eye on his progress for a while now and we’re delighted to have him at the club.
