Birtley have reached the play-offs in Northern league Division Two for the first time in their history. You can find all of the key information relating to the play-offs right here. 

The Hoops have reached new heights this season setting a club record of finishing in the top five of Northern League Division Two for the first time. Birtley will now enter the play-offs positions with the winner gaining promotion to Division One. They will be joined by Bedlington Terriers, Billingham Town and Horden CW. 

How do the play-offs work?:

Boro Rangers have been promoted automatically as league winners. The teams placed in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th position will enter the play offs. The first play-off semi-final will comprise of Horden CW (2nd placed side in the league table) playing at home against Birtley Town (5th placed side). 3rd and 4th place will compete on Friday 26th April when Bedlington Terriers host Billingham Town. The winning semi-finalists will meet in the final with the highest placed of the two clubs playing at home.

The semi-finals and final will be played to a conclusion as one-off games and should the scores finish level at the end of normal time then the winners will be decided by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark.

Dates of the play-offs:

The Step 6 season end date is Tuesday, 25th April 2023 and the conclusion of the play-offs shall be by the end of the weekend of Saturday 29th April 2023 (including bank holiday Monday).

Thursday 25th April – Semi Final 1

Horden CW 2 v 2 Birtley Town. Birtley Town won 5-4 in the penalty shootout. 

Friday 26th April – Semi Final 2

Bedlington Terriers 2 v 2 Billingham Town. Billingham Town won 3-2 on penalties. 

Monday 1st May – Final

Billingham Town 2 v 2 Birtley Town. Birtley Town won 5-4 in the penalty shootout.
